Version 1.0 Launched!!! Here's What's New

It’s out, version “one dot uhh ooo”, or “barely-out-a-beta” is live. What has changed since the beta launch you might ask? Tons of Stuff.

In addition to the expected bug fixes and minor UI enhancements, we’ve added a bunch of new features to support additional games and playing styles. Since our beta launch back on December 20th the following more ‘big ticket’ features have been added to RPGSmith:

Performance

We’ve spent a bunch of resources focusing on making RPGSmith as responsive and zippy as possible. Huge strides have been achieved and while we will continue to have this as a top priority with our future enhancements we’re happy with the current speed to offer our release candidate.

Custom Dice

You can now create any dice you like. You always had the ability to roll a d126 or d8745117 if you wanted. But now you can create a die type with numbers 0, 7, 74, 123, & 200 if you wanted. You can also create dice with text results instead of numbers. ‘Hit’, ‘Miss’, ‘Evade’, ‘Lose a Turn’ is now a possible die type.

Dice Tray

So you’ve created your custom die, but who wants to have to type that in every time? Now you can update the Dice Tray. Remove unused die types, add custom die types, rearrange the die to suit your preferences. After all this is RPGSmith, of course you can customize it.

Fate/Fudge Dice

Sure you can create these with the custom dice feature, but we’ve built it in anyways. Roll xDF (where x=the number of dice, 4) to execute rolling Fate Dice.

Exploding Dice

For Savage World fans this is a must. You can now ace those rolls and have the dice keep flowing, just supply a ‘!’ after your dice roll. EXP: ‘5d5!’

Deck of Cards

Need to pull a card out of a standard deck? We’ve got you covered. 2 new built in standard dice types.

  •  ‘DOC’ will pull a random card out of a standard deck of 52 cards.
  • ‘DECK’ will pull a random card out of a standard deck of 52 cards plus 2 joker cards.

New Character Stat Types

Different game systems require the storing of different types of data. There are 4 new character stat types to help keep track of your characters attributes.

Toggle

When displayed on a tile this character stat type allows you to click and quickly change the value on the fly. Check/Uncheck, Yes/No, On/Off, Even custom phrases and/or images can be used with this. After all this is RPGSmith, of course you can customize it.

Combo

A combination of the text & number stat type, this allows you to associate both types of information in one stat.

Condition

The more we can automate the faster the game goes. Yet another stat similar to calculation or command. With this one you can set thresholds or compare static values to other character stats then set a result accordingly. For example, Is your inventory weight over 50? Yes, then you are “carrying too much”, No, then you’re “Not carrying too much”.

Link

Playing a game with weapon or armor slots? The ‘Link’ character stat type is for you. This allows the character to specify a record (item, spell, ability) to associate with a character stat.

Mobile device menu

Greatly enhances using RPGSmith on a mobile device. No more struggling to tap just the corner of that tile on a small screen, now go into the mode for the specific action you’d like to accomplish.

Default layouts

Simple enough but very useful, now you can specify which layout you would like to use for a given device type. This allows you to switch between your computer, phone, & tablet with ease knowing the preferred dashboard will be displayed for each type of device.

My Images

A slick simple interface that gives you access to see, delete, or even add custom images you’ve used in your rule set. Even do it in bulk!

‘Text’ tile type

A simple and easy to use tile type, but has advantages over the rich text in that it is displayed differently in the tile, but you can also pass character stat variables into it to display if you like. After all this is RPGSmith, of course you ca… yea you get it.

Search

With all the content you can store in RPGSmith you should have a way to quickly search and find it, now you can.

From your character you can go into any of your Record Screens (Inventory / Spells / Abilities) and search not only the Name, but other fields for that specific item or spell you’ve been looking for. Want to see a list of all the 1st Level Cleric Spells, “Cleric 1” and set the searched fields to class and level in the “Advanced Area”.

You can also switch on the fly to search the entire Rule Set and not just the records associated with your character.
